Documentary own production

This documentary tries to gather the most updated information we have relevant to the composer and his masterpieces, giving us a modern and updated version, taken up by the most qualified specialists in the field of this 21st century.

THE NARRATION: Victoria lived in a historic period full of great characters, notable historic events and marvelous artists. This documentary places the composer in this context using at the same time three complementary types of narration:

  • Victoria’s biography, backed up through the participation of the interviewed History specialists.
  • The narration of the historical events occurring at that time in history in the world, narrated with a voice-over of a chronicler of the period.
  • Nowadays performing of Victoria’s masterpieces by diverse choirs with different styles.

THE CONTENT: It is divided into three chapters, which match the three different cities where he lived:

  • Avila.  His birthplace and school at the Cathedral´s Music Chapel.
  • Rome. Centre piece of Christianity where he carried on his studies and works on the area of Germanic School and  St. Philip Neri´s oratory, and where he wrote and composed part of his masterpieces.
  • Madrid,  with the royal title of “Town and Court” (Villa y Corte) where Tomás Luis de Victoria gathered himself with his family and where he kept composing and serving as chaplain at Descalzas Reales Monastery.

Ana Maria Sabe Andreu:  Ph.D in Modern History. Author of the biography “Tomás Luis de Victoria, passion for music”. Keen participant in the performances of several choirs.

Soterraña Aguirre:  Tenured lecturer in Musicology at Valladolid University, primarily focused on the study and teaching of music of the centuries 15th and 16th.

Madrid Chamber Choir:   It depicts nowadays an important strengthening effort to set up a high caliber vocal chamber group. It is primarily a meeting place where performers and public gather together around polyphonic music.www.corodecamarademadrid.com

Ana Fernández Vega:  Choir and orchestra conductor, pianist and harpsichord interpreter trained at Madrid Royal Conservatory of Music and Sibelius Akatemian, Finland. Conductor of Madrid Chamber Choir since 2007

Alfredo García: Baritone, international soloist, musically trained at Vienna´s  Hochschule and at Madrid Singing School. www.alfredogarcia.com

Cristina Ferris: Madrid Chamber Choir soprano. She aims for professionalism and constant self-improvement at the vocal technique and musical performing of the different repertoires she faces at each performance.

Alterum Cor:  Choir founded in Valladolid at the beginning of 2005. Since its origins the choir itself has specialised in the performance of Renaissance and Baroque music without giving up other styles and epochs.www.alterumcor.es

Valentín Benavides:  He is a piano and instrumental ensemble teacher at “Harmonía” Music School in Valladolid. He conducts “Alterum” choir.

Serafín de Tapia: Historian and professor, author of numerous and specialized publications in the 16th and 17th centuries Avila society.

Marta Infante:  Mezzo soprano, higher education in singing at Ostrava University (Czech Republic) and regular collaborator with the most relevant ancient music societies of Spain.

Manuel Vilas: Two-orders harp player and pioneer in the study of certain types of harp nowadays forgotten.
